Sports Medicine

Sports medicine is a specialty of health and medicine that applies scientific knowledge to prevent, recognize, manage, and rehabilitate injuries related to sport, exercise, or recreational activity. Because most sports injuries involve the soft tissues such as cartilage, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, prolotherapy is an excellent treatment to identify and treatment these kinds of musculoskeletal injuries. Providing specific prolotherapy injections to injured tissues will rehabilitate and strengthen the injured joint allowing for a quicker and more complete recovery. Some of the more common sports injuries involve the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, spine, hip, knee, ankle and foot.

Prolotherapy should always be considered when the words sprain or strain is given as part of the diagnosis. A sprain is when a ligament is injured that connects bone to bone. A strain is when the attachment of the muscle to the bone is injured at its tendon attachment. Both of these types of injuries can result in instability to the involved joint and result in early or accelerated wear and tear or degenerative joint disease (DJD), also called osteoarthritis.

As both a Chiropractor and Naturopathic Medical Doctor, Dr. Fred Arnold has treated Sports Injuries for over 20 years. Prolotherapy is a proven orthopedic procedure and is a proven treatment procedure that can truly rebuild injured cartilage, ligaments, tendons and the tendon to bone attachment. Prolotherapy does not have the dangerous side effects of cortisone injections (read Prolotherapy vs Cortisone).
